There’s a passage of Scripture that catches my attention when I open my Bible. It could be the fact that I have blue pen highlighting it or that it’s lengthy.
The truth is, I stumbled upon this passage not too long ago. Sure, it’s been there for what, thousands of years, but when God speaks to you, the words of Scripture that have been there forever jump out at you.
Here’s the passage I’m talking about: Romans 12: 9-13 (NLT): “Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good. Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other. Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically. Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying. When God’s people are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager to practice hospitality.”
This passage is packed with commands from God for us to do for others. And that’s what Christianity is about, isn’t it? Caring for and lifting up the other person. Loving them intentionally, practicing hospitality, and being eager to do it!
My challenge today is simple, and the message, short. Take some time to read that passage in your Bible, and if those commands cannot be mirrored in your life, ask God to help you see others the way He does. I am in no way close to being able to move the bookmark in my Bible from this page. Conviction from the Holy Spirit is a good thing; it presses us to change and grow in the nature of Christ.
May you continue to be shaped as clay on the potter’s wheel, becoming more refined as the days pass.
